In today's time there are a lot of ex-cons searching for gainful employment to better themselves and achieve employment status. This blog is to help you better find employment, and encourage you to get back on your feet. Of course you have to know that this is not the end of the world for good people, who paid their debt to society to live a great life and better their future for themselves and for their families. Here are a few tips that would hopefully help you find employment in today's job market.
Tip #1- Companies do not hire a piece of paper!
What I mean by this is you have to do the actual foot work in the situation that your in. Filling out job applications and sending out resume's can be sometimes over looked. There are many companies that will hire someone because they took the initiative to physically talk to someone at the job site in person so they can get a better feel of the person rather than just what's on the application.
Tip #2- Offer to work for free.
I know that companies may not hire you because of your record, but try, just try to offer to do something for free. Go to a construction site or any job location and say," I know that I can do the work and I am willing to work for you for a few days for free to see if I'm a fit for a certain position." You would be surprised of how many managers or supervisors who will give you the opportunity to show your dedication to the job. Working for free and taking that initiative will better your chances of them saying that the company will bring you on for either a part-time paying position on a trial basis that can definitely lead to full time gainful employment.
Tip #3- Take advantage of jobs that offer training, or learning a trade.
If you were incarcerated for a long period of time, of course it would be tough to get back in the job market due to lack of experience. You have read all that you could read, and you may have learned a trade while you were locked down. Use that to your advantage when it comes to finding something that can put some money in your pocket. Better yet, try to take advantage of as much training as you can. For example, if you have access to a computer, go on YOUTUBE or other video sites to find training videos of you interest. This is something that you can do in your spare time while your trying to find work. Take notes and really see how things are done, and broaden your ideas. Who knows you may find something that can help you be your own boss or start a business.
I am in the business of helping and encouraging people to better their situation. Sometimes everyone needs positive words and a little push to be uplifted to keep going. There is no such thing as there aren't any jobs out there. Almost over 1 million companies out there, all of them will not just say no. Some are very open to give second chances because believe it or not, some of the Managers, Supervisors, and even CEO's are felons themselves that took some of these tips to help them get ahead. Just live for today, and tomorrow will always be a better day. Don't worry about the economy, you are your own economy.
I hope this helps someone out. Leave comments to uplift and help others.
